If you hide your teeth when you smile because of your gums, Charlestown Dental Centre can help…
A ‘gummy smile’ can be damaging to your self-esteem as well as a big inconvenience at events where it can send you running from the camera. Gum overgrowth is a common issue where the gum distribution is disproportionate to the teeth. Gum recontouring, also known as gum reshaping, or gum sculpting, is a cosmetic dental procedure that can even out a gum line you are unhappy with.
The soft tissue laser can enhance your smile and your confidence…
At Charlestown Dental Centre we utilise a soft tissue laser to recontour your gums and improve the gum to teeth ratio. The soft tissue laser is an innovative dental technology used for precise sculpting and treating of tissue in the mouth.
Gum recontouring is performed in the chair at the dentist’s office. The patient will receive a mild local anaesthetic to numb the gums. Our dentist will use the soft tissue laser to work away excess gum tissue. This is a procedure that often takes about an hour or more. Unlike cosmetic teeth whitening, gum recontouring is able to be achieved in 1-2 treatment sessions. Prior to surgery, your dentist should go over what to expect from the procedure. Post surgery, ease the pain by taking over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol or Advil, eat soft foods, and avoid spicy foods. It may take a few days to a few weeks for gums to heal completely. Make sure to follow your dentist’s instructions on when and how to brush your teeth following the procedure.
